The 30-year-old finally passed 10 days after being taken off life support following a heart attack that left him brain dead on November 28.
Sad news for fight fans.
Talented UFC Heavyweight Shane del Rosario died last night in a California Hospital ten days after being taken off life support following a heart attack he suffered on November 28.
Shane del Rosario died late last night (Dec. 8, 2013) at Hoag Memorial Presbyterian Hospital in Newport Beach, Calif., following complications from cardiac arrest suffered in his home on Tuesday morning (Nov. 26, 2013).
Del Rosario was discovered by his roommate, UFC flyweight Ian McCall, and listed in critical condition after being resuscitated in the emergency room. While the former Strikeforce title contender showed initial signs of improvement, his health took a turn for the worse on Thursday (Nov. 28, 2013) after “No Limits” displayed no sign of brain activity.
The doctors believed Del Rosario may have suffered from a rare condition called Long QT Syndrome. It’s a genetic abnormality that can cause a sudden life threatening heart rhythm abnormality and can result in instant death. The rare condition strikes healthy young people and often there is no sign of it until it strikes.
It can be genetic, or it can come from certain medications or medical conditions.
