Fedor vs. Maldonado official for Fight Nights Global on June 17

Fight Nights Global confirmed that Fedor will face Fabio Maldonado on June 17 in St Petersburg, Russia.

During a Tuesday press conference in Moscow, Fedor Emelianenko announced that he will return to Russia to compete under the Fight Nights Global banner against UFC veteran Fabio Maldonado.

The news was first reported by Brazilian outlet Combate.

“I have no words to express my admiration for the scale of the event, the tournament and the opportunity to fight in June with the biggest name of modernity,” Maldonado said at the presser. “This sport is the most unpredictable, but we have witnessed how the biggest names of the sport have lost battles.”

Fedor, who will split his training between his home base of Stary Oskol and the Netherlands, added that he believes Maldonado is a talented fighter with a well-rounded game.

“Fabio is a good fighter with a good boxing background, as well as stamina and ground game but I think we will find the weak spots.”

The event is scheduled to take place on June 17 in St Petersburg, Russia.

Rizin FF flirted with Fedor vs. Couture following initial backlash over Singh bout

Fedor Emelianenko’s reps claim that Rizin FF tried to book a fight with Randy Couture after initial backlash over the Jaideep Singh announcement.

According to representatives on Fedor Emelianenko’s Facebook fan-page, Japanese MMA promotion Rizin Fighting Federation tried to book Emelianenko against Randy Couture for the New Year’s Eve card.

Rizin sought out Couture after they received heavy backlash from announcing Jaideep Singh as Fedor’s opponent in October.

Singh, who has only two fights in MMA, will take on the heavyweight legend on December 31st at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan. Despite his inexperience in mixed martial arts, the Indian-born fighter has won 40 kickboxing bouts and has fought the likes of Gokhan Saki and Sergei Kharitonov. However, despite his resume, fans were largely disappointed with his booking against Emelianenko.

Rizin reportedly reached out to several heavyweights, but contractual obligations prevented a more promising bout from materializing.

Emelianenko vs. Singh will top off an entire weekend of Japanese MMA and K-1 action. From Dec 29-31, Rizin FF will host a World Grand Prix featuring Bellator fighters and combat sports legends. Check out the full lineup below.

Fedor Emelianenko will fight Jaideep Singh at Rizin Fighting Federation 1

The upstart Rizin Fighting Federation made the announcement during a news conference. Emelianenko (34-4), regarded by most as one of the greatest heavyweights in MMA history, will face Singh (1-0), a kickboxer from India with just one MMA fight on his resume.

The 38-year-old Emelianenko started planning a return to MMA earlier this year after a 2012 retirement, leading many to suggest that the Russian fighting legend could finally make his way to the UFC. Then there was speculation he would go to Bellator.

But instead, he signed with Rizin for his comeback, a promotion started by former PRIDE president Nobuyuki Sakakibara. In September, Sakakibara appeared on the Spike broadcast for Bellator 142, along with Emelianenko, to announce that he will return to the world of MMA, and his new promotion’s first event will take place New Year’s Eve in Tokyo with Emelianenko in the main event. Bellator broadcast partner Spike has exclusive U.S. rights to the event.

Fedor on ‘oppressive’ UFC contracts: They are ‘draconian’ and ‘enslaving’

When Fedor Emelianenko announced his return to mixed martial arts, many hoped that the Russian heavyweight legend would end up fighting for the UFC. However, despite several encouraging signs, Fedor eventually signed with Japanese upstart promotion Rizin FF, headed by former Pride FC boss Nobuyuki Sakakibara.

During an impromptu periscope session with Russian sports outlet Championat, Fedor explained his reasons for not signing the “one-sided” contract with the UFC.

“I’m not ready to fight under the contract conditions that was offered by the UFC on the terms that they decided,” said Fedor. “Contract was just draconian and oppressive. I’m not ready to sign such an enslaving contract. First of all, they should show respect for the fighters — the kind of respect I receive in Japan”

Fedor is currently in Moscow following a month-long stay in the Netherlands for a specialized training camp. The 39-year-old trained with the likes of Vitaly Minakov, Kirill Sidelnikov, Vadim Nemkov, Valentin Moldovan, and Anatoly Tokov.

With less than two weeks remaining before his long awaited return, Fedor’s opponent has not been officially announced by the promotion. The announcement is expected to occur during a Friday press conference in Tokyo, Japan.

Coach on Fedor’s conditioning: ‘He is training hard like he is young again’

Original story: http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2015/12/7/9862588/fedor-emelianenko-conditioning-russia-coach-training-hard-mma-news

Renowned Russian coach Vladimir Voronov has high expectations for the long-awaited return of his legendary pupil Fedor Emelianenko.

After witnessing Fedor take part in several training camps in the Netherlands, Moscow, and his hometown of Stary Oskol, Voronov is convinced that the former Pride heavyweight champion made the correct decision to return to professional fighting.

“He clearly has had a long break but Fedor now has perfect conditioning,” Voronov said after
M-1 Challenge 63 in St. Petersburg. “He is training hard like he is young again. His hard work and experience will make for a very interesting fight.”

While Fedor’s opponent is yet to be publicly announced, the Russian heavyweight is already aware of his upcoming foe and has begun the final stages of his preparation. His coach, however, is not concerned with the person standing opposite Fedor on Dec. 31.

“It doesn’t matter who his opponent is. If Fedor is ready, he can beat anyone.”

Here is a video of a Sambo fight between Fedor and his coach:
